abstract = "Starting from 80s, pioneer research to map and monitor vegetation
cover in regional and global terms using data acquired by the
AVHRR (Advance Very High Resolution Radiometer) began a new
paradigm in the remote sensing, providing data which were used
only for local studies for global and regional studies. During
this period, with the increasing need of vegetation cover
monitoring, sensors on board of new satellites have been acquiring
data with higher quality, considering temporal, spatial, spectral,
radiometric and angular domains. This article the feasibility and
the impact of the utilization of the MODIS/EOS-AM1 data as an
alternative for the utilization of the TM/Landsat-5 data to map
forest and non-forest areas in one area of Parque
Ind{\'{\i}}gena do Xingu.",
